While I travelled across Unova, I shuffled between my normal team of eight. I trained Fang, and got him back up to speed. I didn't train Belle and Charlotte, but I kept them with me, and let them fight from time to time. I was just careful not to let their level reach 64.
They kept telling me it was inevitable. But I just couldn't.
I had just reached Striaton City, where there used to be a gym. The ex-gym leaders, three chefs, still hold battles. I had fun fighting them, tag-teaming with the water user, Cress. After I left their restaurant and headed back to the Pokemon Center, I got a call from Brandon, telling me I might want to fly to the ranch for a big surprise.
So I hopped on Fang and we flew back to Floccessy, and went to the ranch. And yeah, it was a big surprise, and it was a good one.
Of my whole team, I had left Sonata and Maria back at the ranch. And the pair of them had gotten busy. Sonata and Dawson, and Maria and David, had had an egg each.
They were going to be parents.
I stayed at the ranch a few days so I could be around when they hatched. Dawson had built a beautiful nest for Sonata. Whereas Maria and David had found a secluded corner of the ranch where they could be alone with their own egg. I was overjoyed for all of them. I felt like a grandmother - I mean, Maria and Sonata were both my little girls. I was so proud of them, and they were both just thrilled.
Sonata's egg hatched first. I wasn't there when it happened, but Kitt came and got me when it did. I suppose it's fitting that Sonata's egg hatched first - since she was the first egg that I hatched, half a year ago.
I ran across the ranch to the grove where her nest was, and I crouched down to meet the new little one.
She was a fuzzy, dark gray and black speckled Murkrow. A little girl. Sonata and Dawson were so happy. When the little one opened her eyes, we saw she had her mother's bright violet eyes.
They named her Midnight.
Midnight is Quirky nature, good perseverance. She's a plucky little thing, energetic and apt to toddle off and get into trouble. Very sweet-natured, though, and no one can stay mad at her long. Sonata would have spoiled her completely, but Dawson's the firm hand that she needs. She hatched knowing Peck, Astonish, and Taunt, proving her quite the little handful. And even more so, she hatched with a peculiar ability. Unlike both her parents, that have Super Luck, Midnight has Insomnia. She never sleeps. It doesn't seem to phase the little one much, but it can be a little trying on her parents' nerves.
But despite it all and because of it, Sonata and Dawson love Midnight very much.
And all the while, Maria and David waited patiently for their own egg to hatch.
