We went through Chargestone cave, which made my hair stand on end. Some good training there, though, and we found stuff like gems and a Thunderstone. I also caught a Joltik, so once we get to the next town, I could give Brandon a call and get another egg.
The cave and tunnels weren't too bad, so soon we came to the end of it. And it opened up, right into the next city, Mistralton. The moment I saw the town, I knew that this was a place meant for my team.
The entire town is nuts for flying type Pokemon!
There's an airport, with small planes parked all along the runway. The gym is a Flying Type gym. The houses are all wide and squat, with peaked roofs. And all the roofs are covered in birds roosting there. Mostly Pidove, Tranquill and Unfezant, but there's also Emolga and Ducklet, Woobat and Swoobat. I even saw a Crobat. A Swanna let out a trumpeting blast, and the whole flock rocketed off of the building and into the sky.
I let my whole team out, so they could see it too. I was so enthralled with all the birds, I didn't notice a tall woman with brown hair walking up to me. "Hello, there, trainer!" The woman said brightly, and I gave a start.
"The flying types here are amazing, aren't they?" She looked around, beaming, then looked back at me. "So, who are you? Not one of my trainers, are you?"
She waved her hand. "I meant a trainer who got their starter from me. Or from my assistant, Bianca."
"Oh!" I pulled out my Pokedex. "I already had my own starter, but I got my Pokedex from Bianca. So you must be Professor Juniper!"
"I am indeed." She laughed. "If you're one of my trainers, then, you should make good use of this!" She threw something to me, and I caught it. And then I stared at it.
It was a purple Pokeball, with a yellow M on the front. "Is this...a Master Ball?" I gasped.
"Yep!" She winked. "Don't look so surprised, they're not as rare as they used to be. Just exclusive. I like to give one to all my trainers at one point or another. Make the best of it! Oh, and this too." She pulled a round white egg out of her pocket and plunked it in my hand. "A Lucky Egg. It'll help your Pokemon train."
I was flabbergasted. "I - Thank you! Thank you so much!"
"Think nothing of it." Juniper strolled away, whistling. "I'm here for a week or two, studying the bird types. So I'll see you around, kid!"
I was still amazed at the gifts. And then I heard a high-pitched squeal, growing in volume. I looked around in confusion - and then a girl whipped past me and tackled Fang.
"Look at how BEAUTIFUL you are!" Squealed the girl, throwing her arms around his neck in delight. He stared at her, confused, and then looked at me.
That was when I recognized the girl - I had seen her picture. "Excuse me, are you...gym leader Skyla?" I asked hesitantly.
She sprang away from Fang, looking breathless and bright-eyed. "Oh, oh, oh, sorry about that! Yeah, that's me. Sorry, I'm just - " She looked at my whole team, her face glowing. "I've never SEEN a team like this! Look at these Pokemon!" She grabbed Fang's wing, gasping in wonder. "Look at that WINGSPAN! And oh! And oh! What a lovely Murkrow! And a Gligar? I've only ever seen those in books! And that TROPIUS! Wings from leaves? Ohhh, I'd LOVE to see her take off! What's your top flight speed, girl?" She gushed, rubbing Maria's head. Maria churred in pleasure.
And then Golden looked up over my shoulder, and Skyla stopped dead. "Oh. Em. Gee." She breathed. She ran right up to me - she had no concept of personal space, apparently - and looked at my Emolga. "That...that is a shiny Emolga." She looked at me, her face awed. "May I...? May I hug him?"
Golden let out a little cry of shock as Skyla swept him off my shoulder and whirled him around, giggling like a school girl. It was kind of hard to believe she was even older than Brandon. "Ohhh look at how BEAUTIFUL you are!" She shrieked. "Oh, you adorable little browny gold ball of fluffy AWESOME!"
She finally set him down, then rushed up to me and pumped my hand in a warm handshake. "Oh, thank you! Your team is aMAZE-ing. You're a flying trainer after my own heart, girl!"
Marco let out a snort, Kitt "ahem-ed" and Leatho said nothing.
Her excitement was rubbing off on me. "Yeah, they ARE pretty awesome, aren't they?"
"Yeah they are!" She beamed. "So, hey, will you be challenging my gym soon?"
"Oh, maybe. I want to do some training first. You know. Just in case."
"Of course, of course." She glanced again at my team. "Oh, I can't wait though! It'll be a totally awesome battle, especially if you use your flying types!"
My three non-fliers "ahem'ed" again. Belle was sitting over by Fang - she hadn't said anything, of course, since she'd be flying within two evolutions.
I nodded. "I'll look forward to it, too." I said with a smile.
Skyla suddenly bolted upright. "Oh! OH! Do you want to go flying? The air currents above Mistralton are sweet!"
So Skyla and I went flying together. She flew on her Skarmory's back, with her Swanna and Swoobat flying beside her. I had my whole time flying around me, too, while I rode on Fang's back. Kitt came too, on Maria. I even got Leo from the ranch to come flying with us, which made him happy, especially since he got to see Belle.
It was a fun day.
