The first thing we caught was a Patrat. So I sent that through the PC to Brandon, and he sent me the first egg. I carefully wrapped it in a blanket I had brought just for this purpose, and then we went to Flocessy Ranch.
We caught a Lillipup there, and a Sewaddle on Route 20, both to trade for new eggs once the one I had hatches. Kitt trained a lot, mostly. He's extremely tough - nothing could stand a chance against him, not even a Riolu we fought with a trainer. We spent all day training on the ranch. Annie brought us some lemonade. We checked on the egg often. It was taking its sweet time to hatch, but I knew it wouldn't be long. Unattended, eggs took a week or more to hatch - with attention, they hatched within a few days. With a trainer, it would only take a day.
That night we decided to camp out on Route 20. We picked a spot by the river, near the bridge. We had lit a fire and finished dinner, the smoke spiraling into the sky from the fire, when I felt the egg stir.
Oh man, I was so excited, I loved this most of all - watching the eggs hatch. I was breathless with excitement - not only was this baby about to come into the world, it would be a member of my team! Kitt sat on my knee, watching eagerly. "I hope it's a boy." He said softly. "I'd love a little brother!"
A crack split the side of the egg. I held my breath.
And then a tiny orange beak pecked out a chunk of shell. The pieces fell away, and sitting in my hands was an extremely fluffy blue/black Murkrow. It blinked round dark eyes, looking around curiously, and then yawned widely, its eyes scrunching shut.
My heart felt like it swelled in my chest like a balloon. It was easy to tell, right from the start, but I scanned the baby with my Pokedex anyway. I was right.
"It's a girl, Kitt!" I giggled as quietly as I could. The new baby was settling in my lap, her downy chick feathers fluffed against the cold night air. "It's a girl!"
The Pokedex said she was Rash nature, somewhat vain. Kitt let out a groan. "Oh, THIS one will be a handful when she gets older, won't she?"
"Hush." I said. I stroked the soft feathers on her back, and she chirred softly, happily. "She's beautiful. And she's our new teammember."
"We won't train her tonight, will we?"
"No. Tomorrow."
"Good." Kitt yawned. "Little girl took her time to hatch - it's nearly midnight."
Midnight... "I think I know what to name her, Kitt." I said. "Let's name her Sonata - like midnight sonata, like the song. Since she's so pretty."
Kitt curled up next to my leg, drumming the ground with his tail paw. "Sonata, eh? I'll call her Sonny for short."
"Fair enough."
I leaned back in my sleeping back, carefully wrapping Sonata in the blanket beside me. Then we went to sleep, the fire's embers popping and crackling. The dim light shone on Sonata, and the little chick drifted off to sleep.

(EEEEE my first baby, my first catch, my first hatch, HOORAY! I love her so much! She's going to be like a mix of Rainbow Dash and Rarity - proud, rash, but very vain. She'll grind a bit on Kitt's nerves, but she's a real sweetheart deep down, and she'll care about her team deeply. Loyal and kind, in the end. I just love her. <3 And it was Arceus who gave her egg to me! Thank you thank you thank you, Arceus! Her ability is Super Luck, too. Awesome! )
Sonny's head/hat thingy looks a lot like Rooke's hat <33
