Karen's battle. This battle terrified me. And it wasn't until much later that I realized how gosh dang lucky I was, because at the time, I didn't fully understand how Destiny Bond worked.

The beginning of the battle wasn't too bad at all. Rolled like the rest of the E4 at the time. (To be fair, even with all OHKO's, while playing the actual Elite Four, I had never been so terrified while playing a video game. X'D First nuzlockes do that to you.)

Then that...Gengar.

The first lucky strike was that Focus Blast. I put Granite in there, not realizing the Gengar had Levitate...he used Earthquake and it didn't affect her, which I didn't show in the comic. But then, out of nowhere, it used Focus Blast. Thank heavens it missed...oh my...if it hadn't, then Granite would have bit it right there, probably.

I switched Pan in immediately - Pan was my tank, through the whole E4. He managed to tank two Focus Blasts and even deal out a Surf attack that hit pretty hard. I guess it's good that it didn't OHKO it, because that's when it used Destiny Bond...

You know, at the time, I didn't understand how Destiny Bond worked. There's so many different "kill me, kill you" attacks. I was actually confusing it with Perish Song at the time. So I thought if I kept them out, they'd die, so I had to keep switching them. I switched in Sam, to use Psychic and KO it, but as I switched her in, Gengar used Destiny Bond again. So I switched in Kindle.

I am so, so lucky that it used Focus Blast then...and not Destiny Bond. Because if it had used Destiny Bond, Kindle would be gone.

But it didn't. And he KO'd it with Flamethrower. But man oh man, it was scary. And I didn't even know until later how scary it was.

The E4 just pulled off the gloves. With only the Champion left...good luck, Rooke.
