Misfits 26 - Good Night, Sweet Prince...

We stood there, facing down a god. Who could I send in to fight this monster? He was tearing the very fabric of reality apart. How could my team face him?

Then Sir Calvin stepped forward. He said this was his battle to fight. This was his moment. He was sure of it. He looked up at me with his cape flapping in the wind, and said, "Every knight must slay his dragon."

So Sir Calvin, a knight prince if ever there was one, went to war with the god of space.

He leaped and used Sludge Bomb, his most powerful move, and took Palkia full in the face. It knocked it down to half of its health. It staggered. The dragon roared in fury - its eyes flashed - and it swept it claws down, ripping a great white rift in space, straight through Sir Calvin. Spacial Rend. Critical hit.

I...screamed.

Sir Calvin's shadow was suspended in air for a full second, and then the edges of the nothing snapped back together, and his tiny body tumbled out of the air and hit the ground. I was still screaming, but I couldn't hear myself. I could only see Sir Calvin lying there.

Mo wanted to run in and fight, tears of fury and anguish filling his eyes, but Dia held him back. Palkia was a water dragon - it had once swept oceans out of stardust. Mo wouldn't stand a chance. But in the split second that he reached forward, Dia held him back, and I screamed, Rudder moved.

He ran, thundering like a freight train, straight at Palkia. He snarled, took a flying leap, and smashed into Palkia, seizing the massive dragon by the throat. His whole weight slamming into the dragon knocked it down - and his teeth found the weak spot in its armor.

Crunch. Critical Hit.

Palkia let out a moan, its eyes fading. Then it faded away, the whole great beast melting into the swirling stars. I knew it wasn't really dead. You couldn't kill a god, not like that. But we had banished it from here. The stars stopped spinning. The world became still.

We had won.

I watched as my team gathered around Sir Calvin. I couldn't move. I was crying, and frozen, and so I just watched, as Rudder scooped up the brave Roserade into his arms.

Then I managed to move, to stumble over to them, and I wept.

Sir Calvin had died as he lived - a warrior, a friend, a noble, a knight, a prince, and at the end, a hero. It may have been Rudder who had struck the final blow. But it was Sir Calvin who had saved the world.

RIP Sir Calvin, level 4 - 51.

(Yesterday was a crummy day. I was depressed, painted sad pictures, and then, as I was playing my DS before bed, this happened. I lost Sir Calvin. *sigh* He had come so far...my brave little Roserade knight. Good night, sweet prince. Rest well.

If you're wondering why I sent him against Palkia, here was my reasoning. Rudder was the strongest, level wise, but his defense is really bad. Mo was at a disadvantage, Dia had terrible defense too, Gilly had no effective moves, Spirit wasn't very strong either, compared to it...Sir Calvin, though, had good defense, the water attack wouldn't hurt him, and he had the strongest Special Attack. I sat and stared at my DS for a good ten minutes, trying to decide who could fight Palkia.

And in the end, I decided...this is was Sir Calvin would want. This was always meant to be his battle.

And so it is that we say goodbye to one of our beloved teammates...one of the Misfits ends his journey...but I think he ended it well. He will live on in our hearts.
